Message from Superintendent Saunders
January 22, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you may already be aware, the Marquette County Health Department, in partnership with UPHS Marquette, is vaccinating citizens that make up group 1B. This group includes those 65 and older and those identified as critical infrastructure, which includes our MAPS faculty and staff. We were fortunate that half of our staff was able to receive their vaccinations this past Monday, a district Professional Development day, without disrupting an instructional day.
Unfortunately, moving forward, we will encounter some interruption to our posted calendar. The biggest interruption will occur next Thursday, January 28th. This was scheduled to be a full day of face-to-face, hybrid, or virtual instruction. I need to make this an online learning day for all students to allow for the remainder of our staff to receive their first vaccination. Second vaccinations will occur on February 12th and February 26th, both scheduled half days. Again, I need to make these online learning days for all students. To summarize, the following days will be completely online:
- January 28th (full day)
- February 12th (half day)
- February 26th (half day)
Like first responders and many others in key sectors of our society, MAPS employees continue to go above and beyond. As part of this sacrifice, I feel it's vital to allow our personnel the opportunity to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
I apologize for the late notice and the schedule changes.
Sincerely,
William B. Saunders
